Gionee a Chinese company made a record with their smartphone Gionee Elife S5.5 last year as it’s the thinnest smartphone at 5.5mm in the world and looks like the company is not going to stop there and have plans to come up with an even thinner smartphone. A new smartphone from Gionee was spotted at China FCC called Gionee GN9005 and according to the reports the smartphone is said to be 5mm thick.

Till now none of Chinese or other global companies haven’t been able to break Gionee’s record at coming up with a 5.5mm thick smartphone and looks like the company wants it to stay that way by coming up with a 5mm thick smartphone. Coming up with such a thin smartphone would pose some challenges for the company and the hardware on the phone is also going to be lower than the current flagship device from Gionee, because of the slim design. To give you an idea Galaxy S5 is 8.1mm thick while the iPhone 5s is 7.6mm thick.

Gionee GN9005 is said to be equipped with a 4.8 inch AMOLED display that will support a resolution of 1280 x 720, Quad core processor clocked at 1.2GHz thought we don’t know which one, 1GB of RAM, 16GB of onboard storage, 8MP camera on the back while a 5MP camera at the front and to power it all a 2050mAh battery. The smartphone will also be running Android 4.3 out of the box and will support 4G connectivity.

Currently the Gionee Elife S5.5 is running Android Jellybean 4.2 and is said to recieve Android Kitkat 4.4.2 update soon. In terms of specs Gionee GN9005 is lower than the current flagship device Gionee Elife S5.5 but in the end it depends on the user.
