Windows smartphone users will get an update to Windows 8.1 later this summer according to a Nokia document that was revealed by @evleaks. The document shows a schedule about the phones that are going to be updated with the latest version of Windows 8.1 update.

While comparing Windows to other big operating system like Android and iOS they lack far behind though the company did manage to move higher than Blackberry and is the third most used mobile operating system after Android and iOS. With Windows 8.1 update what Microsoft is trying to do is to close the gap between it and its competitors as it offers a lot of features that its competitors offer.

The biggest update in Windows 8.1 can be the new assistance that Microsoft added named Cortana which performs all the same features that you would expect from Siri or Google Now but allso offers some extra features that users can turn on and off like keeping a track of the user and his activities. Other than that Windows phone 8.1 update also offers ‘’Action Center’’ which is the same notifications options found on both Android and iOS which the help of which Windows phone users can simply swipe it down to check on their messages, emails and other notifications.

Smartphone that were listed in the documents for that OTA Windows phone 8.1 update are Nokia Lumia 1520, Nokia Lumia 1020 and Nokia Lumia 925 these are the smartphones that will get the update in either the end of July or the starting of August while Nokia Lumia 920, Nokia Lumia 820, Nokia Lumia 720, Nokia Lumia 625, Nokia Lumia 620 and Nokia Lumia 520 will be update in the starting of august.

Windows phone users who can’t wait for the update can also try the Developer version of Windows phone 8.1 that was released recently and can check for what they will be getting before the official update arrives.
