Microsoft Windows Phone 8.1 is getting a lot of attention after its launch because of the new features that the OS offers including some customizations improvements and the new voice assistant named Cortana that seems to work better than Siri, shown in a video where Cortana duals Siri.

According to The Verge Microsoft will soon launch a developer preview update for their Windows Phone 8.1 which will be the first update for Windows Phone 8.1 and this new update will bring some more useful features to the OS. The update will start rolling out next week so developers all around the world should get their hands on it in the starting of August.

Both OEM and general users will benefit from these new features. The update adds a feature to Windows Phone 8.1 with the help of which users will be able to make folders in the start screen just like you can on an Android OS by dragging a tile on top of another and can also be renamed. There is one other feature as well that will make Windows Phone interact with smart covers which is a useful feature for OEM.

HTC is reported to have already used this smart cover features with their custom HTC One Windows 8.1 phone which means that HTC might have plans to launch one as well though there is no official news about it. Windows Phone 8.1 update recently started rolling out to some selected countries which will expand over time and from the looks of it more and more people are getting interested in Windows phones now than they were before.

We can expect some more new features on Windows Phone 8.1 from Microsoft as the company has just started making its OS what it should be.
